August is National Wellness Month and is dedicated to bringing more awareness to how you can practice living a healthy lifestyle.

Here are our top 6 recommendations for how to boost your wellness:

  1. Get More Sleep. The National Sleep Foundation advises healthy adults to get between 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. Sleep is essential to be at your best both mentally and physically. Some ways to get more sleep are by sticking to a sleep schedule, creating a relaxing pre-bedtime routine, and minimizing potential disruptions from light and sound.
  2. Stay Active. According to the CDC, regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities. Aim to get 30 minutes of exercise each day.
  3. Stretch. When you stretch it enhances blood circulation. This is highly beneficial to your heart and musculoskeletal system. In addition, stretching can improve posture, and decrease your chance of injury and stress. A perfect way to incorporate stretching is by adding 5 daily stretches to your morning routine.
  4. Limit Alcohol. Did you know cutting down on alcohol can improve your immune system? When you reduce your alcohol intake it can improve your hydration, your skin, and your quality of sleep.
  5. Cook More. You can control the ingredients when you cook at home rather than go out to eat. Cooking at home can ensure you are eating fresh, healthy, and organic (when possible). Studies have shown that restaurant meals typically contain higher amounts of sodium, saturated fat, total fat, and overall calories than home-cooked meals. Cooking at home doesn’t have to be a chore. Make cooking fun by trying a new healthy recipe each week or cooking with a spouse or friend!
  6. Get Adjusted Regularly. Chiropractic is more than just healing your pain. Chiropractic practices overall wellness and can prevent future injuries without the need for medication or invasive medical procedures. Getting chiropractic adjustments on a regular basis is one of the best ways you can lead a life of wellness!
